Cahaya Ramadhana, a student of the Mandarin Language Study Program, Faculty of Cultural Sciences (FIB), Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), participated in the 2026 Chinese Bridge Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students in North Sumatra, held on 23–24 May 2026 at the Asia International Friendship Foreign Language College (STBA-PIA) in Medan.
The competition brought together junior high school, senior high school, and university students from across North Sumatra. The event was attended by representatives of the Consulate General of the People's Republic of China in Medan, the leadership of STBA-PIA, members of the judging panel, participants, and their families.
Recognized as one of the world's most prestigious Chinese language competitions, the Chinese Bridge Competition aims to promote Chinese language learning, deepen participants' understanding of Chinese culture, and foster intercultural communication. The competition also provides young learners with an opportunity to showcase their language proficiency, creativity, and cultural appreciation on an international platform.
The event commenced on 23 May with a technical meeting and a written examination for participants from all educational levels. The main competition was held on 24 May, featuring Chinese-language speech presentations, question-and-answer sessions for senior high school and university contestants, and cultural performances highlighting participants' artistic talents and appreciation of Chinese culture.
The program opened with welcoming remarks from the Chairperson of STBA-PIA, followed by the introduction of the judging panel before the competition officially began. Throughout the event, participants demonstrated their Chinese language proficiency through speeches, responded confidently to questions from the judges, and delivered cultural performances that reflected both creativity and cross-cultural understanding.
Cahaya Ramadhana's participation reflects the knowledge and competencies developed through the Mandarin Language Study Program at FIB USU. Competing in an international-level event provided valuable opportunities to strengthen language proficiency, intercultural communication skills, self-confidence, and academic and cultural networks.
The Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Universitas Sumatera Utara, remains committed to encouraging students to participate actively in national and international academic and language competitions.
