FIB USU PR - On Monday - Tuesday, August 11–12, 2025, the Faculty of Cultural Sciences (FIB) Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) welcomed the visit of the Academy of Malay Studies (APM) Universiti Malaya (UM) to hold the 2025 Rentas Ilmu dan Tamadun Melayu Student Mobility Program (RITMA). This program was a strategic forum to strengthen academic and cultural relations between Indonesia and Malaysia, particularly in Malay studies.


This activity was attended by lecturers from UM, namely Datuk Professor Dr. Kolonel (K) Awang Azman Awang Pawi (Director of the Centre for Malay Excellence Studies), Associate Professor Dr. Tengku Intan Marlina Tengku Mohd Ali (Deputy Dean of Undergraduate Studies and Student Affairs, Academy of Malay Studies), Dr. Mardian Shah Omar (Senior Lecturer, Academy of Malay Studies), and Dr. Nurul Asmaa’ Akmal Md Din (Lecturer, Academy of Malay Studies), along with 20 students of APM UM.


Also present were Prof. Dr. Dra. T. Thyrhaya Zein, M.A. (Dean of FIB USU), Prof. Drs. Mauly Purba, M.A., Ph.D. (Vice Dean I of FIB), and Rahma Yurliani, S.Psi., M.Psi. (Director of the Directorate of Student Achievement and Alumni Relations), Prof. Dr. Dwi Widayati, M.Hum. (Head of the Indonesian Literature Study Program, FIB), Dra. Nurhayati Harahap, M.Hum. (Secretary of the Indonesian Literature Study Program), All lecturers of Indonesian Literature FIB, and students of Indonesian Literature FIB, USU.
 

In her remarks, Dean of FIB USU Prof. Dr. Dra. T. Thyrhaya Zein, M.A., warmly welcomed the delegation from Universiti Malaya and expressed hope that this student mobility program would further encourage the university’s internationalization efforts.
We extend our warm welcome and gratitude to Universiti Malaya for being willing to establish this collaboration. We hope that in the future, internationalization activities between USU and UM will grow closer and further enhanced," she stated.


As part of the program, cultural performances were presented by students of Indonesian Literature FIB USU and students of APM UM. These performances showcased the richness of traditional arts and modern creations, blending cultural elements from both countries.
In addition, various competitions were also held, including Dance, Drama, Poetry, Syair, and Scientific Presentations, involving students from study programs within FIB USU and students of APM UM. All activities took place in a warm and spirited atmosphere, highlighting the richness of Malay cultural heritage.

 


The Indonesian Literature Study Program, FIB USU, organized this event. The 2025 RITMA Program was also part of FIB USU’s International Program, fully supporting USU’s EQUITY vision of strengthening global networks, equality, and cross-country collaboration.


With the implementation of RITMA 2025, FIB USU hopes that academic and cultural cooperation between Indonesia and Malaysia will become even stronger. It also hopes to inspire the younger generation to continue preserving and developing Malay culture in a global context.
