FIB USU PR - On Wednesday, January 31, 2024, the Universitas Sumatra Utara (USU) welcomed a visit from the Embassy of the People's Republic of China and the Consulate General of the People's Republic of China in Medan to USU for the Initiation of Cooperation. A visit aimed at strengthening cooperation between countries occurred at USU when the Chinese Embassy and Consulate took the initiative to expand collaboration with higher education institutions. During the visit held on Wednesday, the Chinese delegation was received by the head of the university, Prof. Dr. Poppy Anjelisa Zaitun Hasibuan, S.Sc., M.Sc., Apt as Vice Rector for Research, Community Service, and Cooperation and academic staff to discuss the potential for cooperation in various educational fields at the Faculty of Cultural Sciences (FIB) Chinese Language Study Program. Apart from that, the meeting was also attended by the Secretary of the Directorate of Internationalization and Global Partnerships, the Chair of the Chinese Language Study Program, Lecturers of the Chinese Language Study Program, and Chinese Language Study Program students representing the classes of 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023.
During the meeting, both parties discussed potential cooperation in the field of education, scholarships for lecturers and students, and student exchanges. By having a vision that is in line with improving the quality of education and cooperation in the Chinese Language Study Program with the Head of the Chinese Language Study Program, Niza Ayuningtias S.S., MTCSOL and one of the Chinese Language lecturers, Mrs. Julina BA., MTCSOL, where both parties expressed their commitment to strengthening cross-education cooperation. country.
The Vice Rector for Research, Community Service and Cooperation, namely Prof. Dr. Poppy Anjelisa Zaitun Hasibuan, S.Si., M.Si., Apt warmly welcomed the arrival of the Chinese delegation and expressed her readiness to establish mutually beneficial cooperation for both parties. She said that cooperation with China has great potential in developing academic capacity and increasing international exposure for students and lecturers at the Universitas Sumatra Utara.
Meanwhile, representatives from the Embassy and Consulate of the People's Republic of China expressed their desire to support scientific and cultural exchanges between the two countries through collaboration with USU. They highlighted the potential for cooperation in language, scholarship and materials needed for classroom Mandarin learning which is a focus of development for both countries. The visit ended with the hope that this cooperation will open the door to more opportunities for collaboration and exchange that will be beneficial for both parties.
