FIB USU PR - On Saturday, January 20, 2024, the English Literature Study Program, Faculty of Cultural Sciences (FIB), Universitas Sumatra Utara (USU) held an Alumni Gathering which was held at Swiss-Belin Medan. This event was attended by the Dean of FIB USU Prof. Dr. Dra. T. Thyrhaya Zein, M.A., Chair of the English Literature Study Program, Chair of FIB USU English Literature Alumni, FIB USU English Literature Alumni and all lecturers and English Literature students.
Head of the FIB USU English Literature Study Program, Mr. Mahmud Arief Albar, S.S., M.A. expressed his gratitude to everyone who attended, especially the Dean of FIB USU and all English Literature alumni as well as English literature students. This alumni gathering activity can expand our network and will support USU's Key Performance Indicator (IKU) 1 - 8. Employer Reputation Tracker of FIB USU English Literature Study Program 2024 achieved a number of significant achievements. The high participation of alumni, students and industry representatives indicates great enthusiasm and support for this initiative. Inspiring discussion panels with the presence of successful alumni provide in-depth insights, provide motivation and valuable direction for students.

Alumni who successfully collect data through the Employer Reputation Tracker provide a clear picture of the industry's view of the quality of USU English Literature graduates. Networking sessions not only facilitate meetings between alumni, students and industry, but also create a strong network for information exchange and job opportunities. The positive response from industry representatives to the quality of graduates reflects the positive impact of FIB USU's English Literature education in the world of work. The increasing collaborative agreements show companies' interest in establishing meaningful collaboration with study programs. The action plan generated from the tracker results provides concrete steps to improve the curriculum and meet industry needs.
Head of Alumni of the English Literature Study Program Panut Hadisiswoyo, S.S., M.Sc., M.A. would like to express his gratitude to all those who attended who have launched and supported the Alumni Gathering activities of the English Literature Study Program. The number of alumni who attended was around 50 people, there were still some who were unable to attend due to busy schedules or other activities. "As the general chairman of IKALSI (English Literature Alumni Association) I have carried out an election to succeed the new chairman with the hope that the next administrator will be from the Class of 2000. There are two activities that English Literature has, namely social activities and IMSI." said Panut.
Social activities are carried out by making donations to alumni who experience disasters and donations from alumni for serious illnesses. IKALSI also carries out intellectual discussion activities with alumni and students regarding careers for the 2019 English Literature Alumni and also carries out Alumni Talk. In facing the dynamic era of the world of education and work, FIB USU English Literature Study Program is committed to optimizing the potential of the 2024 alumni gathering through a series of follow-up actions. First, efforts will be made to optimize alumni networking by designing a special online platform, facilitating the exchange of information and job opportunities, as well as promoting regular networking activities. Second, the insights of successful alumni will be integrated in a structured manner in the curriculum to provide students with a deep understanding of the needs of the world of work.
Furthermore, the study program will take concrete steps in developing collaboration programs with industry based on the agreements made at the event. In addition, the implementation of the Job Reputation Data Tracker will be carried out periodically to monitor and evaluate changes in industry perceptions of graduates. Strengthening the study program's image will be the focus through optimizing social media, websites and other publications that display alumni success stories and study program achievements.
Another important step is increasing industry involvement in the education process, by establishing consultation forums and regular meetings. Finally, the implementation of the follow-up plan will be monitored and evaluated periodically, by receiving feedback from alumni, students and industry. Through these steps, it is hoped that the FIB USU English Literature Study Program can continue to improve the quality of education, the readiness of graduates, and strengthen mutually beneficial relationships between the study program, alumni and the industrial world.
Alumni of the English Literature Study Program Prof. Dra. T. Silvana Sinar Dipl. TEFL, M.A., Ph.D. conveyed that she was very proud to be able to study and become an alumni of FIB USU English Literature. "Thank you to the alumni who attended from various locations and the many alumni who attended from the Class of 1971, it is a great honor to still be present at this year's Alumni Gathering. USU also provides many MBKM opportunities and grants to students. This Alumni Gathering activity is strongly supported by USU to launch IKU which supports alumni. This alumni gathering can also provide input to each other and become a bridge for alumni who need work" said Silvana.
