Currently teaching and serving as Chair of the Ethnomusicology Study Program, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, USU. Conducting research and documentation of six sub-Batak ethnicities: with funding from The Toyota Foundation.(2001-2004) 2003-2005. The Ford Foundation, Jakarta. DRPM Dikti and TALENTA USU. In 1995, Rithaony Hutajulu founded the world music genre group "Suarasama" with her husband Irwansyah Harahap. Together with the Suarasama group, they have produced four music albums and performed at various national and international festivals. Rithaony Hutajulu was invited to be an artist in residency by the Wellington Art City Council in New Zealand in collaboration with the New Zealand School of Music and gave musical performances and lectures on the traditional music of North Sumatra (September-December 2009). Since 2008, the Suarasama Music House community has been formed as a forum for North Sumatra music/dance training, workshops and art and culture discussions. In 2015 she founded the Toba Batak music group "Mataniari" which is oriented towards Toba Batak traditional music and Batak Opera music performances and has performed at a number of national and international events. In 2018, Rithaony Hutajulu received the Anugerah Pustaka Nusantara award from the National Library of Indonesia as a Preserver of Traditional Music. In 2021, he received the Indonesian Cultural Award from the Ministry of Education and Culture as a Batak Music Preserver.
