Working as a teaching staff or lecturer at the Batak Literature Study Program, Universitas Sumatra Utara. Since
1989 until now, he has been active in research, education and community service at Universitas Sumatra Utara.
Has a Masters education background focusing on discourse and social semiotics from the Postgraduate Program at
Universitas Udayana (2007) and received a BPPS scholarship to take part in the Doctoral Program at Universitas Udayana and has also participated in a Doctoral program (Sandwich Program) for six months at Adelaide University, Australia focusing on Cultural discourse, and methods, of cultural research. Informally and professionally, he often acts as a spokesperson in traditional Batak Karo ethnic ceremonies. Since October 1, 2021. He has been entrusted to serve as Head of the Batak Literature Study Program, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Universitas Sumatra Utara.
