The Ethnomusicology Study Program at the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Universitas Sumatera Utara, in collaboration with Rumah Karya Indonesia, will hold a World Music Talkshow on Thursday, September 3, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM (WIB) at FIB USU, as part of the Lake Toba Traditional Music Festival 6.0 "Pulse of Sound." The talk show will feature speakers from the National Talent Management, World/Jazz Meeting, Nadi Singapura (Singapore), and a lecturer from the Ethnomusicology Study Program of FIB USU, discussing the role of local wisdom in penetrating the global music market while opening up insights and networking opportunities for students in the global music industry.
The Ethnomusicology Study Program at the Faculty of Cultural Sciences (FIB), Universitas Sumatera Utara, will host a World Music Talkshow themed "Local Wisdom as a Tool for Reaching Global Music" on Thursday, September 3, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM (WIB), at the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, USU.
This event is a collaboration between the Ethnomusicology Study Program of FIB USU and Rumah Karya Indonesia, held as part of the Lake Toba Traditional Music Festival (LTTMF) 6.0, themed "Pulse of Sound," whose main festival will take place on September 5–6, 2026, at The Kaldera Toba Nomadic Escape. The initiative is supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Indonesia, the National Talent Management (MTN), the North Sumatra Office of Culture, Tourism, and Creative Economy, BPODT, and Wonderful Indonesia.
The talkshow is designed as a two-way discussion bridging academic ethnomusicology with the global world music industry. Through this forum, Ethnomusicology students will gain insight into technology-based exploration of traditional works, a deeper understanding of the music market's ecosystem, and expanded professional networks—opening doors to global career opportunities while staying rooted in local cultural heritage.
The event will open with remarks from Mhd. Pujiono, S.S., M.Hum., Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences USU, and Hubari Gulo, S.Sn., M.Sn., Head of the Bachelor's Program in Ethnomusicology. The main discussion will feature the following speakers:

Through this talk show, students are expected to gain a deeper understanding of where traditional music stands—and where it is headed—within the global music industry, while strengthening their commitment to preserving North Sumatra's local culture as an identity capable of competing on the international music stage.
